Baldwin Bots
Baldwin Bots is Baldwin Elementary's First® LEGO® League Robotics Club.
Teams of 6 to 10 students who are in 4th or 5th
grade will be challenged to overcome obstacles using science and
technology. Each team will:
- Build and program an autonomous robot to carry out pre-designed missions in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Analyze, research, and invent a solution to the 2011 Food Factor Challenge.
The teams then compete at a qualifying tournament - much like a high energy sporting event. Referees monitor and score the Robot Game and judges review the team presentations. An FLL event is a pumped-up environment with music and excitement that celebrates the work the students have done throughout the season.
Each
team is led by 1 Adult Head Coach (parent, college student,
professional, or retiree) 1 Co-Coach (parent, college or high school
student, professional, or retiree), and 1 Academic Lead (parent in
charge of the Research Project). Teams meet 1-2 times per week for 1
hour to 90 minutes from the end of August to November. Meeting days,
times, and locations are determined by the Coaches. Afternoon teams with
stay-at-home mom coaches will have a parent volunteer to watch other
children during the team meetings.
Coaches and Academic Leads can be professionals (technical or
non-technical), teachers, professors, parents, college students, and FRC
and FTC team participants. Computer programming or enginering is not a
requirement to be a Coach.
Jon Howard, Gorzycki Middle School's Technology Department Chair will be hosting a Coach Boot Camp on Saturday, August 27th from 1pm to 5pm. This is a great opportunity to get some in-depth training to be a robotics Coach.
For additional information and details, please see the Coaches Information Flier, email Vicky North, or phone her at 330-1717 (Home), or 299-8990 (Mobile).
